Frequently Asked Questions

Straight answers about what this site is, what it isn't, and how the review process works.

Is Southeastern Massachusetts Health Insurance Solutions an insurance company?

No. SMA-HIS is an education and advisory navigation resource. We don't sell or underwrite insurance — we help Plymouth and Bristol County employers understand their options and connect with a local advisor at Apex Benefits Partners.

Is this an Association Health Plan?

No. SMA-HIS is not an Association Health Plan, pooled-risk program, or insurance product. Every option described on this site is evaluated individually for your group at quote time.

How are the five options on this site chosen or ordered?

BCBS Massachusetts, Triad, Blue Funding, and InCap Captive are presented first because they cover the range from fully insured to level-funded to captive, in that order, by typical employer size. Alternatives & Health Connector is presented last as a comparison point, mainly relevant to very small employers or owner-only situations. The order reflects how most groups actually work through the decision, not a ranking of quality.

Will requesting a review cost anything or obligate me?

No. A Southeastern MA Employer Health Insurance Review is free and no-obligation. It's a conversation, not a sales pitch.

Should I submit health information through the contact or review form?

No. Please do not submit protected health information (PHI) through any form on this website. Our forms are for general inquiry purposes only — census counts, plan documents, and renewal letters are fine, but individual claims or medical records are not.

Why do network changes matter right now?

Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts is discontinuing all PPO and EPO plans in the merged individual and small-group market after 2026, with the change reported to take effect at renewal beginning January 1, 2027, for groups with 1–50 full-time employees. Combined with the Steward Health Care hospital transitions across Southeastern Massachusetts, this is a real, current shift — not routine renewal noise. What should I do if I have employees in Rhode Island or on Cape Cod?

Check whether your plan's network actually extends into that area before assuming it does. See If You Have Employees in Rhode Island or Cape Cod Employee Access Note for what to ask about, and where to find the dedicated regional resource for each.

What size employer does this site serve?

Primarily small to mid-size employers in Plymouth and Bristol County, including nonprofits and seasonal employers. Larger employers may be a fit for options like InCap Captive.

Are the rates and statistics on this site guaranteed or final?

No. Rates referenced (such as the 2027 proposed rate changes) are Massachusetts Division of Insurance filings still under regulatory review and are not final. All statistics on this site are sourced and cited; results and savings vary by group.

How long does it take to hear back after I request a review?

A local advisor typically reaches out within a couple of business days of a review request. There's no automated quote and no spam — just a real conversation about your group.
